Question: Hello Rabbi, I am a Kohen and I injured my leg. I have a cast, but I am able to walk on it. However, the cast on my foot is visible. Am I allowed to go up for Birkat Kohanim?
Answer: If the cast on your leg is noticeable and visible, you shouldn’t go up for Birkat Kohanim. This is because the unusual appearance might distract the congregation during the blessing. However, if you have been living in the same neighborhood for at least 30 days and the congregation has become accustomed to seeing you with the cast (for 30 days), you may ascend for the blessing, but only in your neighborhood. (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 128:31)
